PSALM 120. C.M.
Christians love peace. (cont.)
3 |
O! might I fly to change my place,
How would I choose to dwell
In some wide, lonesome, wilderness,
And leave these gates of hell!
|
4 |
Peace is the blessing that I seek:
How lovely are its charms!
I am for peace; but, when I speak,
They all declare for arms.
|
5 |
New passions still their souls engage,
And keep their malice strong:
What shall be done to curb thy rage,
O thou devouring tongue!
|
6 |
Should burning arrows smite thee through,
Strict justice would approve;
But I would rather spare my foe,
And melt his heart with love.

PSALM 121. First Part. L.M.
Divine protection.
1 |
TO Zion's hill I lift my eyes,
From thence expecting aid;
From Zion's hill, and Zion's God,
Who heav'n and earth has made.
|
2 |
Thou, then, my soul, in safety rest;
Thy guardian will not sleep:
His watchful care, that Israel guards.
Will thee in safety keep.
|
3 |
Shelter'd beneath th' Almighty's wings,
Thou shalt securely rest;
Where neither sun nor moon shall thee
By day or night molest.
|
4 |
At home, abroad, in peace, in war,
Thy God shall thee defend;
Conduct thee thro' life's pilgrimage
Safe to thy journey's end.

PSALM 121. Second Part. P.M.
Preservation by day and night.
1 |
UPWARD I lift mine eyes;
From God is all my aid;
The God that built the skies,
And earth and nature made:
God is the pow'r,
To which I fly;
His grace is nigh
In ev'ry hour.
|
2 |
My feet shall never slide,
Nor fall in fatal snares;
Since God, my guard and guide,
Defends me from my fears.
Those wakeful eyes,
That never sleep,
Shall Israel keep
When dangers rise.
|
3 |
No burning heats by day,
Nor blasts of ev'ning air,
Shall take my health away,
If God be with me there:
Thou art my sun,
And thou my shade,
To guard my head
By night, or noon.
|
4 |
Hast thou not giv'n thy word
To save my soul from death?
And I can trust my Lord,
To keep my mortal breath.
I'll go and come,
Nor fear to die,
Till from on high
Thou call me home.
